Automotive Technology

This program allows students to start with and develop the basic fundamentals and advance to the necessary job skills and related work procedures to gain employment in the automotive profession. This will include use of technical service manuals, testing equipment, electronic ignition systems, rear, front and four-wheel drive, and power steering and brakes. As advanced technology is introduced with new automobiles each year, our program is continually updated. Electronics are used in brakes, transmission, steering systems, and a variety of other components. Students will use the latest in infrared engine analyzers and computerized diagnostic devices. This enables students to work with the same type of tools and equipment they will find in industry.

The shop training is set up very similar to repair bays in an automotive dealership. We schedule customer work that provides the learning environment for job training. Students will learn actual on-the-job procedures for trouble shooting, looking up parts, figuring a job sheet and dealing with customers. Class time will include lectures, text and workbook material, technical manuals, videos, and guest speaker presentations.

Automotive Department Raffle Engine

The Automotive Technology Class of 2007 raffled a Chevy 350 cid small block engine which had been completely rebuilt by the students for the Flatlanders Festival in Goodland on September 29, 2007. All of the students helped in building, setting up, and or raffling this engine. This has become an annual event at Goodland ' s own flatlander fall festival. This engine has been completely rebuilt by our students.

All proceeds from the engine raffle go into our departmental funds to help with Automotive Technologies annual field trip to the Mopar National drag races in Denver Co. A very special thanks from the Automotive Department to Frank Linden, L& L Engine Services, in Goodland for donating all of the machine work on the engine and for additional help with the parts. Without this donation this activity would not be possible.

This is one of many fun and exiting events that happen in Automotive Technology come and join the fun in a very high demanding career.
