Financial Aid

Northwest Kansas Technical College has developed a budget for each program called a "cost of attendance" which includes all education and living expenses. Your financial aid award cannot exceed the cost of attendance. Scholarships are available~click the links on the left to access the application and further information.

An Expected Family Contribution or EFC is calculated for each student, based on the student's (and the parent's/stepparent's of dependent students) ability to pay. This need is determined by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA.

The financial aid staff is here to assist you in creating a financial aid package which may include grants, scholarships, loans, and agency assistance.

How do I get started?

1. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  NWKTC does not have a deadline for processing your FAFSA, but recommends filing as soon as final prior year tax information is available.  You may file online by clicking on the banner link above.  To complete an online application, you will also need a PIN number-the link is located next to the FAFSA link.  If you would like assistance in filing the FAFSA, please contact the financial aid office.

2. Make corrections or supply additional information as requested by the financial aid office. Your FAFSA submission may be selected for a process called verification, and your award will be delayed until verification is complete.

3. You will receive an award letter from Northwest Kansas Technical College summarizing your financial aid package. You will need to sign and return the letter to the financial aid office.

4. For grants, no further action is necessary. Financial Aid staff will complete the necessary action to request PELL, ACG, and SEOG grant funds. The staff will work with any donor or organization which has granted you a private scholarship to request and process scholarship funding. You will normally receive half of your award each semester. The staff will also coordinate efforts with agencies such; as SER, Vocational Rehabilitation, and WIA.

5. If you accept a subsidized student loan, you will need to complete an electronic loan application-the link is located on the left side of this screen.  For first-year, first-time borrowers, the maximum amount is $3,500. You will receive half of the award each semester. For second year returning students the maximum amount is $4,500. If additional assistance is needed, Parent loans and unsubsidized loans may be available. Contact the financial aid office.
